Eurotransit Terminal, Kasachstan
Digital information and traffic control
The transport route between China and Kazakhstan is always busy. Day and night countless goods pass through the Eurotransit Terminal to be dispatched all over the world. Trouble-free operation is essential for this important border point in global trade. Everything must run smoothly here to avoid standstill.
Challenge
To ensure that freight transports between Kazakhstan and China can be carried out as smoothly, quickly and flexibly as possible, Eurotransit-KTC planned to set up a cross-border terminal in Altynkol. This terminal needs to have direct access to the Chinese standard gauge rail network as well as to the Kazakhstan wide gauge rail network in order to be able to handle all daily business as quickly as possible. The project required displays that are able to operate around the clock for outdoor traffic management in the area of a border terminal and for the management of terminal operations. These displays must be able to operate around the clock.
Solution
JWe developed and installed outdoor LEDs with 16 mm pixel pitch for traffic and terminal management. These are ideally suited for this purpose as the contents are perfectly visible at distances of 15 m to 150 m, in all weather conditions. Additionally, we equipped the S[quadrat] SO [16 RGB] NT LED displays with shaders for better contrast and protection against sunlight. Of course, wind load and earthquake resistance are also provided. In addition to the outdoor displays, we equipped two control rooms for video surveillance and for monitoring and controlling terminal operations with our displays. So, we delivered four 72 m² free-standing LED displays and 34 LED displays with a screen surface of about 10 m².
For the continuous and error-free operation of all 38 LED displays, it is essential to monitor the operating temperature of all electronic components and to provide decentralized information about abnormal operating conditions. That is why we have equipped all LED video displays with our self-developed, proven warning system SX[TempControl], the associated SX[On/Off] switch-on and switch-off system and display heaters. Thus, we can offer reliable safety and high-quality standards. This is very important in this area, as the climate is subject to extreme fluctuations from very hot summer months to temperatures below freezing in winter.
Reliable fire protection
Timely warning as soon as the temperature is outside the normal range is crucial for reliable fire protection. Sensitive semiconductors can be better protected by early detection of defective fans or contaminated ventilation ducts. Thus, the service life of the entire system is extended by this preventive measure.
The temperatures are displayed by a traffic light application in the rack and in the software in the control room. Temperature monitoring includes two temperature ranges: one for low overtemperature, which triggers a graphical warning and an audible signal, and one for high overtemperature, which shuts down the entire system. In such a case, the power supply to the display is immediately switched off fully automatically. Switching off the entire power supply in the sub-distribution stops the power supply and reduces the risk of smouldering fire and fire spreading.
Safe and controllable power supply
The detached panel allows safe and convenient switching on of the LED video displays and disconnection from the power supply. The sequential commissioning prevents power peaks. Switching can be done either via a button on a 3U master unit in the control cabinet or via the Internet. The SX[On/Off] software also has an operating hours counter and can be extended with further customer-specific functions.
Result
Our outdoor displays at the Eurotransit Terminal in Kazakhstan guide traffic and transport information with pin-sharp images in all weathers and at any time of day or night. In the control rooms, our LED displays provide a round-the-clock overview. Our display systems at the Eurotransit Terminal make logistics a little easier and that is what we wanted to achieve.
